THE COVID -19 RESPONSE PROGRAM
PROJECT : SANTE BOPETO
During the pandemic period CO.CO.PE has been working in partnership with various partners such as KMFAP, and FEAMAIRED. CO.CO.PE has been implementing Access to continue education and risk communication to the COVID-19 Response Program in partnership with the Embassy of Malta (KMAFAP ) in Bouenza province whereas intensive program implementation in BOUENZA AND POOL REGIONS.
The COVID-19 Response Program was started in July 2019 and ended in April 2021.
Executive Summary:
The District Administration office, health department, and social welfare of Yamba also issued the directive and sealed the district. Due to the pandemic outbreak, it can be assumed that the academic session will not be resumed till the situation remains normal and confident.
In the context of COVID-19, CO.CO.PE with the Program Sante Bopeto explored the innovative efforts to promote continued learning at home.
The program was to respond the COVID-19 through accessing continuous Education and raising mass awareness with a risk communication approach during the Pandemic lockdown in Bouenza Province.
The intensive program was implemented in YAMBA, INGIE, MBANZA NDOUNGA, MOUYONZI, and MABOMBO districts. Each district consists of ten municipalities, with urban municipalities and rural municipalities.
All the schools were closed due to the nation being clamped in lockdown and most of the schools were used as quarantine, the people living in constant fear, however, the number of Coronavirus infected people.
To access continuous Education and engage children in the continued learning process with different alternative mediums video conference schools were carried out. Also, 8120 sets of creative learning materials enabled learning achievement in children's creative learning behavior. The program is equally successful in influencing local government to School reopen and disinfection. In Yamba and Ingie Districts, 111 quarantine-used schools and the municipality were disinfected in support of local government initiation. Also, they raised mass awareness through the different local media on Protection, Education, Wash, and Health-related messages in 3 different local languages kizomba, Lingala, and francais, take in the community. With regard to policy and plan intervention, the program was successful in bringing about significant changes.
The response plan was formulated in favor of education risk reduction at the local level of government and put into effect
Achievements by Program:
To disseminate the COVID-19, Nutrition, WASH, Education, and immunization-related messages
widely, We have installed 40 hoarding boards in different publicly accessible places of co.co.pe school, co.co.pe clinics.
Provincial Hospital madingou , District Hospital mpanga . The messages were in Kitouba's local language
which was very impressive to the public understand.
The hoarding board messages significantly contributed to creating mass awareness, to take prevention and precaution of COVID-19.
With messages of dos and don’ts, the billboard was placed in the quarantine and Isolation centers, which significantly boosted the exposure of awakening messages regarding COVID-19 while staying in centers during a pandemic. 30 billboards were developed and placed in isolation and quarantine.
SANTE BOPETO program was carried out in 6 municipalities where 111 schools were used as quarantine. Went it out to the more than 400 villages of the catchment areas of 109 schools, were able to reach approximately 60000 population.
It was focused mainly on infected communities and site areas where the local government established quarantine and isolation. The message includes both COVID-19 awareness and education-related messages.
The message has reached the community that home is the first School for children and children can study at home.
To the COVID-19 risk mitigation and awareness for necessary prevention, the precaution-related code of conduct messages were painted on the schools' walls. The code of conduct has been written in 111 quarantine centers and established schools in 6 municipalities
There are many vulnerable communities in the Republic of Congo and Africa in general that have had little or no access to decent life and better education.
CO.CO.PE provides better health care, education, advocacy, support, welfare, and skills to vulnerable persons, families, and communities through collective effort.
In the Republic of Congo, an estimated 12% of the population have a disability yet 22% of unemployed disability. Persons with disabilities account for 12.4% of the population. Disaggregation by age reveals that Children with disabilities (17 years and below) are 2.9%, youth with disabilities (18-30years) is 2%, adults living with disabilities (31-64) are 5.5% whereas
older persons with disabilities (65 years and above) constitute 2.1% of the population. Analysis by gender reveals that disability is higher among women (6.9%) compared to men (5.6%).
In addition, the disability prevalence rate is higher among those living in rural areas 10.3% compared to those in urban areas 2.2%. Visual impairments account for the highest form of disability (6%), followed by mental disabilities (5%), physical impairments (4%), and hearing difficulties (3%). (Vulnerable)that is the reason we focus on helping the disabled in the communities
DISABILITY COMMUNITY
A disability is any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (activity limitation) and interact with the world around them.
Although “people with disabilities” sometimes refer to a single population, this is actually a diverse group of people with a wide range of needs.
Two people with the same type of disability can be affected in very different ways. Some disabilities may be hidden or not easy to see.
Nearly everyone faces hardships and difficulties at one time or another. But for people with disabilities, barriers can be more frequent and have a greater impact.
CO.CO.PE was established to help vulnerable persons with special needs by donating Wheelchairs, Sanitary Pads, and home items.
Elderly Communities
In the Republic of Congo, the current population of older persons is estimated at 1.6 million (5% of the population) and it is expected to increase to 5.5 million in 2050 Older persons are thus highly vulnerable to neglect, isolation, and elder abuse and face discrimination in accessing social services.
Older people are more prone to detrimental health conditions such as hearing loss, disabilities, diabetes, depression, and other health challenges. Limited access to health care for this vulnerable group is a growing concern in developing countries.
We do care for the elderly by providing them with Food, Mosquito Nets, Mattresses, Bedsheets, and Bed Covers. Shelters e.t.c
